Pictures That Inspire

first off, i love this bag. it's from bunglaow360.com

secondly, as you can see by my posts tonight that i am really bored. that brings me to...

thirdly, these are pictures hanging next to my desk that i love. some of them i couldn't find on the internet and my scanner program thing isn't hooked up yet so i am only able to show you a couple...

this is a beautiful picture of Greta Garbo. this is my favorite shot of her. the pic i have is clearer. the look she is giving is amazing. her eyes will put you in a trance.

this is called "Icarus, Empire State Building, New York" it was taken in 1931 by Lewis Hine. i can't remember exactly but Icarus was a greek something or other who was able to fly and one day i think maybe he flew too close to the sun and his wings melted or burned up and did he die? i hope that's not what Lewis Hine is alluding to when he names the piece "icarus"

this is django reinhardt. i love his music.

this is a young bob dylan. taken by dan hunstein in NY in 1963.

fourthly, i'll stop posting now. thanks for being patient as i have been a stupid poster.

Icarus. Yes, that's exactly what Hine was alluding to. Here's this guy, shinnying up a wire at the top of what was the tallest building in the world and he's not using any safety equipment at all.

The Icarus myth is supposed to remind us not to reach too high. It says, "Some things are SUPPOSED to be unattainable."

I love that picture, because it reminds me of the courage it takes to do something of that magnitude. Maybe they did worry that they were reaching too high, but seventy-four years later, that building is still there and it's still the thing everyone recognizes in the New York skyline.

I can't help but think that the guy in that picture knew it would be, and that's why he went up that wire. To him, it was just a job that needed to be done, and if he didn't do it, someone else would have to.

Cool pic.

thanks yoda! i figured he was alluding to icarus but i initially meant that i hoped the construction worker didn't die. this picture also reminds me of the empire state building one where like ten workers are on that long metal support eating their lunch and just hanging out. i think one guy even has a liquor bottle is his hand. so as you said for them it's their job but for me it shows complete dedication and courage.

anika- www.bungalow360.com i think that's the link. they have some great bags.

tanya, i *think* i understand.
