Not So *whew*

So the effects of Katrina are devastating. Eighty percent of New Orleans is underwater. The Gulf part of Mississippi is destroyed. Thousands upon thousands have no home. They don't even have dry land to walk on. Louisiana is a toxic wasteland and will be for a very long time.

My restaurant is sending some people down there this weekend and will continue to do so as long as we can. The company I work for has a trust fund for employees in need, say your house burns down, trust fund money is given to you to help you get back on your feet. I donated $10 to the trust fund about a month ago. I didn't want to really because I was pretty tight on money but I did anyway because I knew that it was just the right thing to do. Now I am so happy I put in the $10. It's not much but it's something. The trust fund is now going to victims of the Hurricane and to sending people down there to feed the victims. I am trying to get down there next weekend.

Our Governor here in Georgia declared a state of emergency yesterday because of price gauging at the gas pumps. Somehow yesterday a rumor got out that Georgia would run out of gas and that the pumps would be shut down by that evening. Slowly, (while I was in school and oblivious to the situation) gas prices started going up like a quarter every hour. Some gas stations were up to $5 a regular unleaded gallon. Gov. Sonny Perdue "pulled the trigger" late afternoon and froze the gas prices. Now, gas station owners will be prosecuted if they raise the price of their gasoline. So by evening time the gas stations with lower priced gas (ie: $2.75, $3.09, $3.20) were running dry and only their premium gasoline was still flowing. Right hand lanes of traffic were in stand still traffic because people were waiting in long lines at the gas station before the gas supply in Georgia ran dry (or so they thought). All of the "Gas Hysteria" (as it has now been labeled) is mostly rumors and we will most likely not run out. And if we do we have a special 30 day reserve here in Georgia for dire emergencies. However, we are still getting gas from Savannah and the gas stations that have run dry are back in business as soon as a tanker gets there to replenish the supply. People were just panic stricken and freaked the fuck out. Luckily I just filled my tank the day before at $2.56 a gallon for regular unleaded. Gas prices will remain high because of supply and demand with the fact that two of the major oil refineries were in Louisiana and they are shut down, destroyed, whatever the situation may be. But the gas will go down from the $4 and $5 price gauging. Those gas station owners will rot in hell for taking advantage of a desperate situation like this. And speaking of people that will rot in hell...the looters in Louisiana will rot in an even hotter incinerator part of hell. People who loot are worthless pieces of shit. And to top it off, they aren't even looting for food and supplies, they are looting for TVs and stereos and jewelry. rot.in.hell.motherfuckers.

Pray for all the victims. Do what you can.
